3nd International Piano Competition

Article 1

The "Giovanni Colafemmina" Cultural Association Centre for Music Studies, with the contribution and patronage of Acquaviva delle Fonti Municipality, Puglia Region, Bari Metropolitan City, Business Club for Culture Confindustria Bari Bat, "Don Lorenzo Milani" Musical Academy, and Acquaviva delle Fonti Pro Loco Association, is pleased to organise and announce the 3nd International "Città di Acquaviva delle Fonti" Piano Competition - awarding the "Giovanni Colafemmina" Prize, with the aim of promoting musical culture, by encouraging and awarding prizes for piano study.

Article 2

The competition is open to pianists of all nationalities born after 1979. It will take place from 9th to 12th September, 2016 at the Cesare Colafemmina Hall of Palazzo De Mari and at the "Don Lorenzo Milani" Music Academy Auditorium.

Article 3

All recitals will be open to the public. Competitors will be required to play from memory.

Article 4

All candidates, fitted with a valid ID, must be present at the Competition Office (Palazzo De Mari - Hall C. Colafemmina) on September 8, 2016 from 10.00 onwards to perform registration operations and for test instrument. The draw to determine the order of appearance of the preliminary and semi-finals will take place on September 8, 2016 at 18.00 in front of the Art Direction.

Practice pianos will be available to candidates.

Article 5

The jury will decide the awards. The first prize is indivisible, other prizes may also be assigned ex-aequo dividing the scholarship. Each candidate will play three rounds without repeating any piece. Members of the jury may not present their students for the competition.

Article 6

At the start of each audition competitors will have to present the following to the examining commission two copies of the pieces to be played.

Article 7

The winner will be announced and a formal prize giving held on Monday September 12-2016 at the end of the final recital with the orchestra.

Article 8

During the elimination rounds the jury will vote YES or NO. During the semi-final and final rounds, points will be awarded to two decimal places and the three pianists with the highest points will proceed to the final round with the orchestra. The jury’s decision cannot be appealed.

Article 9

Participants accept all the competition rules by signing up for the competition. In case of a dispute, a decision will be made referring to the Italian language version of the rules.

Article 10

The deadline for entry is August 25, 2016 and can be submitted:

-  by e-mail to, attaching the entry form and documents required;
-  by filling out the form in the Entry form (Registration form) menu following the dispatch of the documents required at

  • Photocopy of ID which also specifies nationality;

  • Recent artistic colour photo, max 512kb -JPEG;

  • Brief musical CV;

  • Photocopy of completed bank transfer of €150 in favour of:

including the name of the competitor.

Article 11

There will be some families of Acquaviva delle Fonti hosting (accommodation only) the first registered in the Competition (postmark date of submission of full documentation).

Article 12

According to Art. 10 of Law no. 675/96 on "Protection of personal data", the Association of Musical Studies Center John Colafemmina that the information provided at the time of registration will be the same used exclusively to organizing the competition.

Article 13

The organisation declines all responsibility for risks or damage of any sort to participants during the competition.

Article 14

The Artistic Management Team reserves the right to call upon other jurors in case of absence of those listed. The Minute Secretary and the Chairman (or his delegate) of the "Giovanni Colafemmina" Cultural Association Centre for Music Studies may participate.
